– Frame and other basic steps & techniques

– Crossbody inside turns & outside turns
π What you will learn:
– Become comfortable with On2 timing
– Develop a good frame and improver techniques
– Variations of Copa, Titanic, Cross Body Inside & Outside, Reverse Cross Body, Texas Tommy, Blocks, etc
– Various solo steps & turns, simple shines
Many salsa schools in Bristol, Gloucester, Bath, and Cardiff teach “Salsa On1”, sometimes also called “Salsa LA style” or “Linear Salsa” or just “Salsa”. On the other hand, many urban centres with thousands of high-quality dancers, such as London, Amsterdam, Berlin and many other places on the world have *HUGE* Salsa On2 communities. Most famous salsa superstars that you see on Youtube, Tiktok, Instagram, and Facebook dance Salsa On2!
So, what is Salsa On2 all about? The typical “1, 2, 3 – 5, 6, 7” is the same. However, Salsa On2 is different in that the forward/backward step is not on 1 and 5, but on 2 and 6. This changes much more than you think!
For example, it means that many turns get prolonged “across” the common resting beat 4 or 8. In other words, Salsa On2 often gives you a full beat extra to execute the exact same turn. Many followers find this much nicer and smoother. Another huge difference is that the forward/backward step on beat 2/6 means you connect much more with the dynamic music instead of the typically static beats. Finally, in Salsa On2 many follower turns begin on beat 1 instead of beat 5 (check it yourself: when does the follower right turn actually begin in Salsa On1? Indeed, beat 5!). This often intuitively makes more sense for both followers and leaders.

Frequently asked QUestions (FAQ)
I have never danced Any SalSa before. Can I join you?
Historically we have not found enough interest for absolute beginners to start immediately with Salsa On2 – instead they typically begin with Salsa On1, then switch to Salsa On2 after they are more familiar with salsa dancing. For this reason, we currently don’t offer Salsa On2 classes for absolute beginners. However, if you have dancing experience dancing Salsa On1 (often also called Salsa LA style or Linear Salsa), please come visit our Improvers class and immerse yourself in the world of Salsa On2. Check out our course tickets here [HERE] or contact us [HERE] if you prefer private classes instead.
